Get creative with your container: Five inventive uses for self-storage

We’re firm believers that our storage units can offer so much more than safeguarding your belongings. Whether concerning our spacious containers and storage rooms or our handy business and catering pods, think outside the box, and the possibilities are endless.

Seasonal wardrobe storage

The Container Self Store team has put together six simple-yet-inventive storage unit tips and tricks to get your creative juices flowing.

One of our favourite storage tips is an idea that’s so simple, many people overlook it, yet it’s so effective. Seasonal clothes storage is an absolute game-changer for creating extra space in your home; we’re putting it up there with our favourite life hacks.

Most of us are fashion lovers, yet clothes take up an excessive, annoying amount of space in our homes – especially when we don’t use bulky items such as heavy coats and big woolly jumpers for half the year. So, why not rent a storage unit? Our 16sq foot storage room is the smallest on offer, yet it’s the perfect size for stowing away your benched seasonal belongings – keeping them safe and dry for just £4.17 per week!

Store away sports equipment

Taking an interest in sports is a great lifestyle to have. After all, it helps keep us fit, healthy and happy – but some sports do come with A LOT of equipment

We’re not talking about the odd pair of football boots here, but some of our more exotic pursuits that rely on the seasons. If you’re into the likes of snowboarding, canoeing and road cycling, you can only enjoy these sports with the right kind of weather and lots of bulky equipment.

When not in use, it doesn’t take long for these items to overflow and dominate our garage or garden shed, so why not store them away instead? Self-storage is the perfect solution, and thanks to our round the clock, 24-hour access, you can grab your gear at a moment’s notice if the weather decides it’s on your side!

An art studio away from home

Our containers and rooms aren’t just about storage solutions; they can also provide a creative outlet that offers the perfect mix of space and seclusion.

Whether it’s easels and palettes or paints and brushes, art supplies take up a lot of space, and not many of us have the luxury of our in-house art studio! With a storage unit, not only will you have a dedicated area for keeping all of your art essentials safe, but you’ve even got a ready-made space to create in away from the distractions and stresses of home.

A clutter-free space for crafts

Much like using your self-storage as an art studio, it’s also a great space for crafts. There’s a new wave of independent start-up businesses crafting and creating their way across websites such as Etsy; from jewellery and knitting to accessories and clothing, it’s now easier than ever for creatives to sell their crafts.

The one problem? The lack of space many of us have in our family homes. By renting or purchasing a storage container, you’ve got ample floor and storage space for sewing machines, printers, cutting tables, shelving, supplies, and more!

Storage for hobbies and businesses

Whether you’re an avid collector or an entrepreneurial aficionado, tons of people take to eBay and online marketplaces or visit boot sales and antique markets to bag themselves a money-making bargain.

As with anything we accumulate or collect, these items soon take up excessive room in our living spaces. What starts as a fun and easy way to make some extra cash can quickly snowball into a storage nightmare that affects how you live in your own home.

One of the best hacks we can offer is to invest in some storage space for your stock! The adage, “spend money to make money”, rings true here because renting a storage unit for a nominal fee will increase your capacity to keep more stock, thus increasing your output for making more money. It’s a win-win!
